      It has drawn more and more attention to the fact that female teachers consist of the majority of the staff at primary and secondary schools in some cities. The portion is reported to be 60-70%. It is a condition of significant consequences and it cannot be neglected by our government.

      It is a popular notion that girls are more suitable to take teaching as their career than boys. People holding to the conception base it on the ground:

      First, teaching is not so challenging as other kinds of professions like being lawyers, managers, doctors, while the pay teachers receive are not miser so that they could at least make the ends meet. This is quite desirous and satisfying for girls, who are usually considered to be inferior academically and in social position.

     Second, summer and winter vacations are free time for teachers. During the holidays, female teachers can spend more time caring for the family.

     We cannot deny these reasons to be untrue. However, they just see one side of the fact. From the view of education, the condition may do great harm to educational development. Experts hold that female and male teachers should be in proportion. They state that since there are too many female teachers at school, some boys are becoming effeminate. These boys like playing with girls, speak and think in the way as girls do. As they grow with the time, these boys may become more and more bewildered and depressed, for they cannot find much male exemplars to follow. For these boys, who spend most of their time at school, are in great need of male exemplars. By imitating the male grown-ups, they get to know how to behave like a man.

      To solve the problem, the government should take measures to encourage more males to come into the teaching profession. On one hand, government may consider some practical improvements, say, more budget for education. On the other hand, government may make the public come to know that students need male teachers. And then the public may change their preconception gradually.
